Costumes
Nancy Altman Guzzetta, better known as Nan, had a passion for antiques and began collecting them at an early age. Soon she began selling them, which led her to antique wedding gowns and other antique clothes. She began to collect antique clothing which was rented out to brides, theater groups, historical societies, fashion shows, and a variety of others who attended extravagant theme parties across the country and even throughout the world. Being quite delicate in nature, she began to use the antique clothing as a guide to create reproductions from every period you can imagine. Beyond Victorian, she expanded the collection to include Medieval, Renaissance, 18th Century France, Gatsby, and even designer wear. Nan would also purchase items from theater houses whenever she had the opportunity. She was self-taught and had the natural ability to ensure that each costume was historically accurate. Nan truly was a Fairy Godmother to those she costumed, bringing their characters to life right before their eyes. Her business spanned decades and she frequently added to her collection through purchases and personal creations.
The costume shop today
After her passing in March of 2021, her son, David—along with his wife, Lorraine—began to go through her expansive collection. A large portion of the collection has been donated to local historical societies and Arts Councils. You will continue to see her collection bring the annual Port Jefferson Dickens Festival and the Three Village Spirit Tour to life for many years to come. Countless costumes remain in the collection here at the Victorian Studio on Main and continue to be available for rent.
